This abstract composition was made by Erich Wichmann. Look at those marks! It’s like a flurry of activity, lines zipping and diving, colliding in a symphony of gray hues. I can imagine Wichmann in the thick of it, maybe even him trying to capture a fleeting thought or untangle a knot of emotions. The lines are delicate, almost tentative, as if he's feeling his way through a maze. And then there are these darker smudges, grounding the composition with a sense of weight. It reminds me a bit of Cy Twombly, but with a more melancholic touch. There is a sense of searching, of not quite arriving. Maybe that’s the beauty of abstraction. Wichmann is in conversation with other artists across time, like me and you, inspiring our creativity and allowing for multiple interpretations, leaving room for the unexpected.
