Wednesday he paints his passion
Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
Editor: This is Paul Gavarni's "Wednesday he paints his passion." I'm struck by the intimacy of the scene, yet there's also a melancholic air. What do you make of this interaction? Curator: I think you've nailed it. Gavarni captures a poignant moment – is it a plea, a farewell? Perhaps the man is confessing his undying love! I see the artist exploring the tension between public performance and private emotion. The woman's gesture seems aloof, distant. Does she return his gaze, or his affection? Editor: That's a great point. I hadn't considered the performative aspect so much. Curator: These glimpses into the world are gifts, aren't they? We get to imagine the rest of the story, what was, what could be, what will never be.
