This drawing, "Crock," was made by Jessica Price, but we don't know exactly when. It presents a kind of diagrammatic approach, all in blue. The drawing feels both precise and intuitive, especially how the flower form emerges from the base of the crock. It's like watching a thought take shape, a process made visible. Look closely at the way Price uses line – thin, wavering, yet confident. The ground is almost like a stain or wash. The texture is smooth but porous, almost like the surface of the ceramic crock. The dark blue pops out against the ground. There’s something so satisfying about the plant springing from it. It makes me think about the relationship between utility and ornamentation, how we find beauty in the everyday. It reminds me a little of Alfred Jenson’s work, that playful approach to combining diagrammatic elements and abstract shapes. Ultimately, art is like a conversation across time.
