Bobby Donovan made "Carrie Sleeping," using ink to create something really special. It's all in black and white, which for me, brings out the raw emotion and process. Looking closely, you can almost feel the texture. Donovan uses the ink in different ways – sometimes thick and bold, other times thin, almost transparent. Check out the way he’s rendered the curve of Carrie’s leg, there’s this gorgeous contrast where the darkness defines the light, and you can practically feel the weight of it. It reminds me a bit of some of the early expressionists, like Kirchner, who weren’t afraid to use stark contrasts and simplified forms to convey a sense of inner turmoil. But Donovan has his own voice, his own way of digging into the emotional depths of a simple scene. Art isn’t about answers, it’s about opening up possibilities, and Donovan does that beautifully.
