Charles Henning made this watercolor and graphite drawing of a toleware coffee pot, but when exactly is a bit of a mystery, isn't it? There's something incredibly charming about this piece; it has a real sense of folk art to it. I can almost feel Henning at his table, carefully rendering each detail of the pot, trying to capture the way the light hits the painted surface. I love the yellow and orange colors, they're so warm and inviting. It makes me think about the conversations, the stories, and the quiet moments that happened around it. The scalloped edges are kind of interesting. What does it mean to make it a sort of 'drawing of a drawing'? For me, pieces like this remind me that art isn't just about high-concept ideas or fancy techniques. It's about everyday life, about the things we surround ourselves with, and about finding beauty in the ordinary. Henning and other artists keep this conversation going. They invite us to slow down, to look closely, and to appreciate the simple things.
