This photograph captures the restoration of the south transept in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwebasiliek in Maastricht, and it's a reminder that making is often about undoing and redoing. The palette is limited, almost monochromatic, but it's full of subtle tones that play with light and shadow. I find myself drawn to the way the image documents the process of restoration. You can see the scaffolding and the raw, exposed brick, and it's like the photo is revealing the building's bones. Look closely, and you can almost feel the texture of the stone, the rough edges of the brick. It's a reminder that architecture, like painting, is about layering and building up over time. Thinking about other artists, I’m reminded of Gordon Matta-Clark, who also loved to expose the inner workings of buildings, making visible the hidden structures that hold them together. Ultimately, this photograph, like all art, is an invitation to look closer, to question, and to see the world in new ways.
