I’m looking at "Sun and Sky" by Victor Pasmore, made with paint and possibly some kind of stencil. This piece plays with colour, and the idea of art-making as a process. The bold blue paint, thick in some areas and fading out around the edges, grabs your eye, doesn't it? It's like a big splash, so immediate and physical. Then, your gaze is drawn across the surface of the paper and brought to the shapes on the other side. I love the way the hard lines sit next to the soft colour of the blue. I wonder if Pasmore was thinking about how we see, how we put things together in our minds. The pink and yellow rings, they’re like targets or portals, and the black dot, just sitting there, adds a touch of mystery. In some ways, it reminds me of the work of Joan Miró, where simple forms become a whole new language. But, Pasmore’s got his own thing going on, a push and pull between control and chance, order and chaos. It’s really about keeping the conversation of art going, isn't it?
