Oleg Holosiy made this untitled painting with oil paint on canvas; it’s a wild, improvisational piece. Holosiy attacks the canvas with these bold, confident strokes. The paint is thick, almost sculptural in places, creating a textured surface that invites you to reach out and touch it. The palette veers from deep reds and blacks to moments of luminous white. The overall feeling is energetic. Take a look at the ladder with a figure climbing it to the left of the painting. It feels symbolic, maybe of ambition, or the struggle to overcome obstacles. What I like about this painting is the feeling that Holosiy is making it up as he goes, letting the painting lead him rather than the other way around. I see echoes of earlier expressionists like Emil Nolde in the raw emotion, but also a contemporary sensibility that feels very much of its time. It's a painting that embraces ambiguity and invites you to bring your own interpretations to the table.
