Curatorial notes
Editor: This small black and white photograph, "Untitled (antelopes at the zoo seen from above, shadows of people watching)," is by Jack Gould, and it feels like a memory fading. What catches your eye? Curator: The shadows, definitely the shadows! They remind me of Plato’s Cave, don't you think? We see only the fleeting projections, the zoo-goers, and miss the deeper reality of the antelopes themselves and the bars that confine them. Editor: That's a cool take! I didn't see it that way initially, but I like how it adds another layer of meaning. Curator: It's a subtle dance between observation and confinement, what do you think the artist wanted to convey? Editor: The mystery of it all still lingers, doesn't it? Curator: Absolutely, it will stay with me.
