This print showcases seven balusters, each a pillar of fantasy and decoration. Observe how motifs of classical architecture, such as the acanthus leaf, intertwine with geometric patterns. The grotesque masks and armorial shields also draw our eye. These elements aren't merely decorative; they represent a symbolic language rooted in antiquity, meant to evoke power, lineage, and cultural memory. Consider the recurring motif of the grotesque mask. We find echoes of these faces throughout history—from the protective apotropaic masks of ancient Greece to the gargoyles adorning Gothic cathedrals. Each use guarding against evil, or reminding us of the wilder aspects of our nature. The image is like a dream, where symbols from disparate eras collide and merge. What remains consistent, is the powerful, subconscious connection that these motifs forge, reminding us of the cyclical nature of history.
