This is Albert Geuppert’s ‘Plane’, a drawing made with graphite and colored pencil on paper. The muted palette and careful shading give a sense of weight and texture to this object. There's a realness in the way Geuppert meticulously renders each detail, like the worn edges of the wooden block and the precise threading of the screws. Look closely, and you’ll see how the artist uses layers of color to build up the form, almost like a painter layering glazes to create depth. The choice to render a tool, something inherently functional, with such care and attention elevates the ordinary. It reminds me a little of the photorealist movement, which emerged later, but there’s something more intimate here. It feels like a personal study. Artmaking is such a funny process. It's both a kind of rendering and a conversation.
