This small picture of Helen Keller's hands on a sheet of paper, well, it's kind of haunting, right? The artist is unknown. I can't help but imagine them in the darkroom, coaxing the image to appear, shifting and emerging through the chemical bath. Those hands, captured in monochrome, tell a story of touch, of feeling the world. You can almost feel the texture of the paper between her fingers. Did the artist wonder what it was like to experience the world like that? I feel so much for the artist. It's funny how a gesture, like the gentle curve of a finger, can communicate so much. It makes me think about other artists who have explored the body like Jenny Saville or Soutine. They are all in a way, in conversation about what it means to be human, to feel, and to express ourselves. It's an ongoing exchange across time.
