This vase with a long neck and two S-shaped ears was made at De Porceleijne Fles. The floral motifs here are not mere decoration; they echo a deeper connection to nature and its cycles. Consider the central flower: its form and radiant center bear a striking resemblance to solar symbols found in ancient cultures. The sun, a universal sign of life, rebirth, and the cyclical nature of time. Across time and space, solar symbols have appeared on Roman coins and Egyptian headdresses. The fluid, curvilinear forms of the blossoms remind me of the 'horror vacui' seen in ancient art, a filling of the entire surface with forms. The arrangement is an attempt to ward off chaos and emptiness. Through generations, this primal need to impose order on the void remains an unspoken narrative, engaging our subconscious on a profound, emotional level. These floral patterns reflect the eternal, cyclical nature of existence.
