This cock weather vane was drawn by Joseph Stonefield, but we don't know when. The image of the rooster almost looks like an X-ray, so it’s like you can see right through it. I can imagine Stonefield studying the original object, figuring out how to break it down into its most essential forms. You can feel him trying to capture its spirit. And I do think you can learn a lot about an object when you draw it. I find myself wondering about the original weather vane. What did it feel like to touch the rusted metal? Was it rough or smooth? How did it turn in the wind? You see, drawing is also a form of conversation, where artists communicate across time, inspiring each other with their work. It’s a reminder that art isn't just about pretty pictures but about the human connection.
