Yolande Delasser made this ‘Harvester Jug’ with what looks like watercolor on paper. It's a painting of pottery, but it's really about how colors meet and blend. See how the brown seeps into the gray of the jug? The paint isn’t trying to hide its own watery, washy nature. Instead, it's allowed to bloom, creating a sense of depth and imperfection that's pretty charming. Take a peek at the cobalt blue flourish on the jug. It’s like a quick, confident signature, a burst of energy against the muted tones. I think this kind of thoughtful mark-making, this dance between control and accident, reminds me a little of Fairfield Porter, but with a humbler touch. It makes you think about how we see—and how seeing is always a process, not just a snapshot.
