Carlos Sablòn, born in 1981, painted "Le fabuliste" with oil, creating this image of a person who has lost their head, quite literally. I can imagine Sablòn in his studio, deeply focused. Perhaps he's thinking about the stories we tell ourselves, how they can both lift us up and obscure our true selves. Look at how the suit hangs, slightly too big, as if the person inside is fading away. The texture of the paint gives the whole scene a dreamlike quality, like a memory half-forgotten. The balloons, those brightly coloured orbs, tug at the figure, hinting at a desire to escape, to rise above the mundane. The painting echoes Magritte's surreal juxtapositions, but with a contemporary twist, and a touch of dark humor. It's about the push and pull between our inner lives and the roles we play. "Le fabuliste" invites us to question the stories we live by and perhaps, to let go and float away.
