This untitled artwork is a light-infused piece made by David Jeffrey. I can imagine the artist gently layering thin washes, almost like watercolor, letting the paper breathe through the delicate hues. Those faint grid lines suggest an underlying structure, maybe a personal map or a system of thought. It reminds me of Agnes Martin's subtle geometries, or maybe even some of Dorothea Rockburne’s translucent constructions. The torn edge between the two sheets gives it a feeling of vulnerability. What was Jeffrey thinking when he made this? Maybe he was trying to find a balance between control and chance, order and chaos. It’s like he's having a quiet conversation with the materials, listening to what the paint wants to do. Artists are always in dialogue, aren't they? We borrow, steal, and transform each other’s ideas across time. And that's how we keep painting alive.
