Untitled. Winter Album 2016

This watercolor, by Kinder Album, is like a dreamscape. Looking at how the ink bleeds into the paper, I can see a softness to the medium, a transparency that invites a contemplative space. I feel the artist conjuring it all up – a woman with a pointy hat and a dog, a poinsettia, a jar full of money and a single orange, a cutting board with a knife. It's a table scene, like she might be waiting for something or someone. The washes of color give the painting a sense of atmosphere. Like it's snowing in the room! The artist seems to be in conversation with other artists, like Nicole Eisenman, who also captures intimate human scenes with an uncanny edge. I appreciate the simplicity and the weirdness of the composition. It's as if all these objects are characters in a play. It's great! A feeling, like the painting, emerges in the process.
