Gunther Gerzso made this sculpture called Yaxchilán, and the way he’s layered these geometric forms, it’s like he's building a world from scratch, full of secret windows. I imagine him working on this, maybe shuffling things around, stepping back, squinting, trying to get that just-right tension between order and chaos. There's so much texture—like the material itself has stories etched into it. The blues and greens evoke a sense of mystery, like a hidden lagoon or a forgotten ruin reclaimed by nature. It reminds me of other abstract painters, like Torres-Garcia, who also sought to create a visual language that felt ancient and modern at the same time. Artists are always talking to each other, across time and space, riffing on each other’s ideas, pushing the conversation forward. Gerzso's sculpture is a space for contemplation and connection, somewhere between memory and imagination, where everything is up for grabs.
