This photo by Franz Holluber, found printed in a book, is a landscape of water and a house. It's like a whisper of a scene, isn't it? So delicate. I imagine Holluber, squinting in the light, trying to capture the ephemeral moment, that sweet spot between light and shadow. You can almost feel the stillness, the quiet hum of the water against the land. The house seems like a place of shelter, a silent observer to the passing of time. I love the way photography can be painterly. Holluber must have been aware of the paintings of his time. It is like he wanted to capture a mood. Like the Barbizon school maybe. There's something deeply human about it, this longing to hold onto a fleeting glimpse of the world. We are all in conversation with each other, aren't we, artist to artist, across time and space, trying to make sense of this beautiful, messy life.
