Pearl Davis made this drawing, of a 'Bed', at a time unknown. I really get the feeling that the original bed was trying to be captured in all its wood-crafted glory. I can imagine Davis squinting and measuring, trying to get those proportions just right. It's interesting how such a functional object, a bed, can become a subject for art. It makes me think about how everyday objects hold so much history and meaning. Davis really focused on the linear details. There is the use of light and shadow to give it form. You know, it reminds me that art isn't just about grand gestures, it can also be about careful observation. I like thinking about the act of documentation. I’m glad we have paintings like this, a celebration of craft! It’s like Davis is telling us to look closer at the things we often overlook.
