Richard Tepe made this photograph of a young birch forest; it is a symphony of grays and muted greens. You know, standing here, I feel a connection with Tepe, imagining him wandering through the woods, camera in hand, searching for the perfect angle. I wonder what he was thinking as he framed this shot. Did he see something special in the way the light filtered through the trees? I'm drawn to how Tepe captured the subtle textures of the bark and the delicate branches reaching towards the sky. Look at how the light catches on those slender trunks. There is something so gentle and calming in Tepe's composition, almost like he’s inviting us to pause and appreciate the quiet beauty of the natural world. And like with any good painting, photography too embraces ambiguity, doesn’t it? There are so many ways to read it and come back to it again and again.
