This anonymous photograph, called 'De kabelbrug in zijn geheel', presents a broad scene. We’re seeing a landscape, dominated by these, quite frankly, incredible contraptions – towers and cables. There’s a real sense of process, of something under construction. Look at how the grainy texture of the photograph gives a tangible feel to the industrial structures contrasting with the soft, leafy foliage. I’m drawn to the way the cables slice through the scene, creating a kind of visual map. They remind me of lines in a drawing, connecting points and creating a sense of movement. You can almost feel the weight of the materials being hoisted, a testament to human ingenuity and labor. It's this sense of raw, functional beauty that lingers, prompting me to think of Bernd and Hilla Becher's photographs of industrial buildings. It is a conversation, the discussion of art making. There is no right and wrong, just art.
