Mariam Aslamazian made ‘Peaches with oleaster branches’ with oils and a brush that knew what it was doing. The painting is so frontal, it's right there in your face, like Aslamazian saying, "Here, look at these peaches!". She doesn't mess around. It's like she's saying, "I'm gonna paint these peaches and I'm gonna paint them hard." You can feel the energy and the confidence in each stroke, the intensity of her vision. The peaches glow with life. The red seeps and stains the black background. I like how she isn’t trying to trick you into thinking they are real, but something even better— a painting. Someone once said that "painting is another way of thinking", and I think she knew that. There is a painterly exuberance in the way the peaches are colored, and light and shadow are suggested. You can see she knows her stuff but is still finding her way—like all artists! It makes me want to go paint some peaches myself.
