Nanda Vigo made this table, Blok, from mirrored steel and smoked glass. The materials are thoroughly modern, straight from the factory. The mirrored steel base reflects its surroundings, creating a sense of visual ambiguity. The cube at its center pushes through the smoked glass top, dividing it into four equal squares, while simultaneously providing structural support. The glass itself is smooth and cool to the touch, and the smoked tint adds a layer of depth. The mirrored surface reflects light and distorts the surrounding space, engaging in a play of perception. The making of this table is a labor intensive process, involving the fabrication and assembly of sheet metal and precise glass cutting. This design merges artistic expression and industrial production, highlighting the intersection of art and design. This piece challenges the traditional boundaries between design and fine art.
