This half model of a paddle steamer was crafted by Rijkswerf Amsterdam. Consider the paddle wheels. Since antiquity, the wheel has symbolized progress, and the turning of fortune. In many cultures, including ancient Mesopotamia and India, the wheel represents the cyclical nature of time and existence. Now observe the radiating spokes. They call to mind the sun's rays, echoing solar deities and the life-giving force of the cosmos. Like the sun that follows a cyclical route, the wheel in the paddle steamer is a testament to human ingenuity, propelling us forward and connecting us to our collective past. The emotions evoked by the sight of a ship—adventure, the unknown, the hope of new beginnings—engage our subconscious on a deep level. This interplay of symbolism and emotion creates a powerful resonance, echoing through time.
