Benedetta Cappa made this painting, "Meeting on the Island," and its brushstrokes are like thoughts, each one a little puzzle piece fitting into a bigger, dreamier picture. The colors are muted, like a memory half-forgotten, which is what I love in painting. Check out how Cappa lays down these earthy browns and blues, letting the canvas breathe underneath. It’s not about hiding the process but showing it off. I get a real sense of her hand moving, figuring it out as she goes. The mountain has this cool, chunky texture, built up with layers, while the water’s all loose and flowing. That contrast makes the painting sing. Look at that little squiggle of blue in the bottom right. Is it a wave? A road? It's like a reminder that art is a conversation, an invitation to make up our own minds, just like Picasso's landscapes. Cappa’s painting sticks with you, like a good question.
