Jan Dam Steuerwald made this drawing of a man and boy on a path in the Netherlands in the first half of the 19th century, using pen in grey and brush. What I find so interesting is how Steuerwald has framed his figures in relation to the landscape and architecture, positioning the man and boy on the margins of a Dutch village.
