Paul Ranson created this untitled work using pastels, employing a vibrant palette to depict an intimate, domestic scene. Ranson uses colour and form to suggest a space that feels both real and dreamlike. The objects in the room—a vase, a table, and even the cats at the woman’s feet—are rendered with soft, hazy edges, which blur the boundaries between them. The colour palette, with its oranges, reds and blues, creates a rich and sensuous atmosphere. The perspective in the work challenges traditional notions of space.
