Maxfield Parrish made this painting, Interlude, with oil on board, and well, it's quite a spectacle, isn’t it? I'm thinking about how his artmaking must have been such a step-by-step process, layering colors and light to get that dreamy, almost hyperreal look. And the textures! Look closely at the leaves – each one seems carefully placed to catch the light, creating a mosaic of greens, golds, and reds. It’s like Parrish is inviting us into a world where nature is meticulously crafted. The colors feel so saturated, so intensely vibrant, that you can almost feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Then check out how the blue of the sky meets the leaves of the trees. Thinking about the light here, and how it almost has a painterly twin in Hopper, who also knew how to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. It’s this sense of wonder that makes art so endlessly fascinating, right?
