This gilt medal, "Vrede van Amiens, ter ere van de drie consuls," was designed by Romain-Vincent Jeuffroy. The circular form divided into two sides, presents a study in contrasts and unities, inviting us to decode its symbolic language. The first side features a pyramidal arrangement of three consuls, their profiles meticulously rendered. This geometric composition, set against the round backdrop, establishes a visual hierarchy reflective of the political landscape. The smooth, reflective surface of the gold enhances the clarity of line and form, drawing attention to the texture of their hair and clothing. Flipping to the other side, we encounter an inscription, framed within the same circular boundary, that boldly declares "PAIX INTÉRIEURE, PAIX EXTÉRIEURE" (Internal Peace, External Peace). Jeuffroy's use of the medal as a medium is in itself significant, because it is designed to be held and circulated, and it promotes the values of peace and leadership. It’s a cultural artifact, reflecting the epoch's ambitions through its careful design and material form.
