Ben made this photograph of street musicians in Maynardville, with a camera and film. It feels like a found moment, an unposed composition and a scene from everyday life. I can imagine Ben, born in 1935, maybe trying to capture something of the ordinary world. The photograph captures these musicians resting, perched in front of a car. You can almost hear the guitars. There is so much careful looking in the details. It reminds me of some of the great documentary photographers, who look at the everyday to show the beauty of the unposed and the real. Maybe Ben was inspired by them? Artists are always in dialogue, taking ideas and making them their own. There is such an interest in lived experience in this piece.
