Inigo Manglano-Ovalle made this sculpture, "Bird In Space Prototype for MACH 10 Hypervelocity Test" at an unknown date. I don’t know what the work is made of, but it's silvery grey. I can only imagine the artist carefully building up its sleek aerodynamic surface. I'm trying to picture the artist working on this, pushing the boundaries of what sculpture can be. I wonder if he was inspired by Constantin Brancusi's "Bird in Space" sculptures. What was he thinking when he made this? The sculpture's surface almost looks like it was made in a factory. It is not just about its formal qualities but its capacity to evoke a sense of movement and speed and, maybe, technological advancement. Artists are always responding to the work of others and to the world around them. Artists don't exist in a vacuum; they're always in conversation with one another, riffing on ideas, pushing boundaries. This piece is really an invitation to slow down and contemplate the possibilities inherent in both art and science.
