This 'Spichtig' pattern tulip vase was made by N.V. Plateelbakkerij Ram, and they've fearlessly embraced a process of imperfection. I love that about them. The matte surface just begs to be touched, doesn't it? The base color is creamy, almost fleshy, with these meandering black lines crawling all over, occasionally accented by gold rivulets. Looking closer, notice how the black lines thicken and thin, creating these dynamic, almost menacing shapes. It's like a dance, or perhaps a thorny embrace. The pattern almost looks like Art Nouveau but with a slightly more sinister edge. It reminds me of the work of someone like Gustav Klimt, who also played with decorative elements and symbolism, though this vase has a more grounded, handmade quality. It's a beautiful object, that exists in a space between decoration and something darker. Art can be anything it wants to be.
