This black and white photograph by Fotobureau Stevens captures a scene from the play ‘What Happened to Jonas.’ It's like a still life, but with people, and a story bubbling beneath the surface. There's a dance of light and shadow here that makes me think about process. The way the light catches the woman’s apron and the man’s glasses, it’s almost sculptural. I'm drawn to the contrast between the patterned fabrics and the smooth, plain backdrop; a wonderful composition of textures and shapes, echoing a real domestic interior. The woman’s touch is so gentle, as she delicately tends to the man’s hair. It feels like a moment of care, or maybe control. It reminds me of Edward Hopper, the way he could capture quiet moments with such intensity. This photograph, like Hopper’s paintings, invites us to project our own stories onto the scene. Art is a mirror, reflecting back our own thoughts and feelings, isn't it?
