Gunther Forg made this Untitled piece in 2004, and right away you can see it’s all about process, about letting the hand do its thing. The colors are simple, almost Mondrian-like, but way more chill. Look at how the blues and whites just bleed into each other, so soft and watery. It's like he's not trying to control anything, just letting the paint flow. I love the way the black lines hold it all together, but they're not perfect, they wobble a bit, giving the whole thing a handmade, human feel. Notice that the surface is smooth, the kind of marks a thin brush would make, and how transparent the blues are. It all feels really immediate, like a quick thought caught on paper. Forg was always playing with ideas of space and form, and you can see that here. It reminds me a little bit of Agnes Martin, but with a cooler vibe. It's just a bunch of rectangles, but somehow, it’s also a whole world. Art’s funny like that, right?
