Curator: T. Lux Feininger created this copy print, entitled "Glass Dance" Performed by Karla Grosch. It is currently part of the Harvard Art Museums collection. Editor: It's like a surreal dreamscape! Claustrophobic and strangely elegant all at once, don't you think? Curator: The "Glass Dance" reflects interwar German avant-garde art, particularly its exploration of the body and technology. Grosch’s performance was staged at the Bauhaus. Editor: The lighting, almost noir, makes her appear trapped, like a specimen. I find myself wondering about the sound… the clinking of the glass. Curator: It's a stark piece, typical of the era's anxieties, while also showcasing the Bauhaus's commitment to experimental performance. The glass evokes fragility, both of the dancer and the times. Editor: Fragility is right. It's as if she's in a bubble, protected but utterly exposed. It resonates, doesn't it, in ways Feininger probably never imagined.
