Editor: Here we have Dennis Feldman’s photograph, "Nellie - Downtown LA." It's a black and white print, showing an interior scene dominated by a television. What strikes me is how the face on the screen interacts with the room. What do you see in this piece? Curator: I see a commentary on the commodification of image and identity. Consider the materials: the television, a mass-produced object displaying a face, essentially a mask. How does this mass media intrude upon and shape the domestic space, and by extension, our perceptions of self? Editor: So, it's not just a picture of a room, but about how media affects our lives? Curator: Precisely. Note the contrast between the intimate, albeit slightly worn, setting and the manufactured image. It asks us to consider how our homes become stages for mediated experiences.
