Sarah Purser made this stained glass panel of King Cormac of Cashel for St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. Look closely at the way Purser uses color and light to create depth and drama. See how the different pieces of glass fit together like a puzzle, each with its own unique texture and hue. The surface is alive with variation, from the smooth, translucent panes to the textured, almost rough areas that catch and scatter the light. Notice the deep purples of King Cormac's robes, set against the steely blues and greys of his armor, giving a sense of both regality and strength. And that sword! Placed so that it bisects the panel, becoming the main focal point, and linking him to the angels above and the nation below. The colours are so vibrant, it reminds me of Rouault, who also loved a line. It's like the ongoing conversation between artists across time, echoing and transforming each other's ideas.
