Curator: This is an image of a poster by Martin Kippenberger, likely promoting an exhibition, judging by the text at the top for Galerie Bleich Rossi. The piece features a bizarre figure with an exposed interior. It looks almost grotesque. Editor: Indeed. Kippenberger, known for his provocative approach, often blurred the lines between high and low art, and the raw, almost childlike quality of the drawing reflects this. The use of colored pencil and its dimensions of 870 by 620 mm emphasizes its physicality as a poster meant for distribution, not precious viewing. Curator: Precisely, the material—a simple poster—speaks volumes. It becomes a readily available commodity, diverging from the aura of an exclusive art object. The exposed interior, filled with strange objects and text, reads as a chaotic, almost rebellious expression. The artist is not concerned with making something visually appealing. Editor: I read the exposure as a commentary on transparency and the vulnerability of the artist—an almost literal laying bare of Kippenberger's psyche. Given his well-documented struggles, the image evokes themes of self-destruction. Curator: I agree. Considering the text "I <3 von Herzen Gern!" at the base, the piece feels like a complicated, self-aware statement about the artist's identity and place in the art market, a reflection on the artist's production. Editor: It leaves me with the discomforting feeling that Kippenberger is inviting us to dissect his persona, but on his terms.

This poster was produced by German artist Martin Kippenberger on the occasion of an exhibition at Galerie Bleich Rossi in Graz, Austria, between November and December 1992. From 1990 onwards Kippenberger worked more frequently with other artists on the production of his posters. The design for this poster was prepared by the Austrian artist Günter Brus (born 1938).
