Paul Jacoulet made this print, La Fille du Chef. Mogomog, date unknown, and it’s all about the dance of color and line. It feels really intentional, like he’s thought about every little bit and how it all hangs together. The colors in this print, like that orangey ground, make it feel warm, kind of nostalgic. And those stripes? They're like ribbons, pulling you into the picture. There’s this bush thing happening behind the figure. I like the big leaf shapes, they feel solid, even kind of cartoonish, but in a good way. The plant or vegetable seems to have a skin, a texture like canvas stretched over a frame. This is a detail that has its own peculiar charm. Jacoulet seems like he looked at a lot of different art and rolled it all into his own thing. It's like he's saying, "Hey, art is one big conversation, let’s keep it going." I really appreciate that he isn't telling us what to think. It’s like he is letting the artwork remain a question.
