This untitled print was made by Myron Kozman, we don't know when, and he seems to have been thinking through the process of collage by using printmaking techniques. What I mean is, he didn’t choose to blend his colors, but to layer them, allowing them to interact as separate elements on the page. Look closely, and you'll see all sorts of shapes floating around: blocky white forms, transparent planes of color, a pink stripe, and even some patterned areas. The blue background is allowed to show through, creating depth, while the opaque white shapes sit boldly on top. There's a playful tension here; it reminds me of Leger in its graphic sensibility but perhaps more intuitive. It speaks to the ongoing dialogue between artists, each building upon the ideas of those who came before, and embracing the beautiful uncertainty that makes art so compelling.
