This is a circular faience dish, made by Jean-Baptiste Guillibaud, measuring almost 15 inches in diameter. The dish presents a play of circular forms. At its center, a delicate wreath of flowers encircles a stylized dragonfly, its form rendered with fine lines. Around this is a border patterned with detailed motifs and geometric grids, all contained within the scalloped edge of the plate. This concentric composition creates a sense of depth and structure, with each layer contributing to the overall visual harmony. The dragonfly is a potent symbol, often representing transformation and adaptability. The floral wreath can be interpreted as a sign of regeneration and the cyclical nature of life. These elements, combined with the geometric precision of the outer border, suggest a deeper discourse on the relationship between nature and order. The plate's formal qualities serve not only an aesthetic purpose but also invite contemplation on themes of change and permanence. The dish becomes more than just a functional object, it becomes an emblem of cultural and philosophical values.
