Morris Louis made this untitled painting with acrylic on canvas, and for me, it's all about the splatters and stains. You can see that he's letting the paint do its thing, pouring and pushing it around. Look at how the colours mix and bleed into each other. It's like a big, beautiful mess, right? I love how the paint is so thin in some areas, almost like a watercolor, and then thicker in others, creating these amazing textures. The dark blue area in the centre feels like a storm cloud, anchoring the whole composition, while all around it the brighter colors dance and play. Louis reminds me of Helen Frankenthaler, another artist who was all about letting the paint flow and do its thing. Like her, he shows us that painting can be an adventure, a conversation between the artist and the material. There’s no right or wrong way, just the joy of seeing what happens when you let go and let the paint lead the way.
