Charles Godtfredsen painted ‘Vid udsigt. Mols’, which translates to ‘View of Mols’, with oils to create this landscape. Right away I’m struck by the quiet, almost pastel-like palette. The soft yellows, muted pinks, and gentle blues feel very dreamlike. Looking closer, you can see how the paint is applied in these tiny, almost pointillist touches. It’s like he’s building up the landscape bit by bit, letting the colours mix in your eye rather than on the canvas. I keep coming back to the little clusters of greenery dotted around the hillside. They’re like shorthand for nature, little daubs of paint that somehow convey the feeling of wild, untamed land. It reminds me a little of some of Vilhelm Hammershøi’s landscapes, that same sense of quiet observation and understated beauty. You know, art isn’t about making definitive statements, it’s about opening up possibilities, isn’t it?
