This intriguing piece is by Robert Frank, and I imagine him in his darkroom, surrounded by the scent of chemicals, creating this work by layering different photo strips, like building up layers in a painting. I wonder what he was thinking as he pieced together these fragments of images – maybe he was seeing the world in broken pieces, like moments caught in a fleeting glance. The grainy texture and stark black and white tones give it a raw, almost melancholic feel, like he is capturing the grit of everyday life. I’m drawn to the way the different frames create a sense of movement, almost like a film reel or a series of snapshots. It makes me think about the photographers who inspire me and how they too, capture a moment in time. It all feels part of a much bigger conversation, and I can feel his emotion resonating through the image.
