This is Dado's nightmarish vision, "Police végétale," painted with oils. Here, the dominant symbols are the grotesque, distorted figures and organic, tumor-like masses that evoke decay, disease, and the fragility of the human form. These motifs, unsettlingly similar to figures in Hieronymus Bosch’s visions of hell, tap into a deep-seated fear of mortality and corruption. Similar images resurface throughout history during times of social upheaval or crisis, such as the danse macabre in the Middle Ages, which were a reaction to the plague. The presence of skulls and skeletal remains, universal symbols of death, serves as a memento mori, reminding us of the transience of life. Dado uses these symbols to address the anxiety surrounding mortality, engaging viewers on a visceral, subconscious level. This non-linear progression and cyclical return of symbols remind us that our collective fears and anxieties are continuous. These have been passed down through history, evolving and resurfacing in different forms across different eras.
