This small copper coin was made between 1256 and 1296 in Holland and it bears the name of Floris V. This coin, like all coins, served as a tool for economic exchange, but it was also a symbol of political power. By placing his image and name on the coin, Floris V asserted his authority and control over the region. The image of Floris V on the coin is not just a portrait, but a carefully constructed representation of power. It shows a beardless man in profile, with carefully waved hair, and a sharp nose. Coins can tell us much about the social and political structures of the time. By examining these artifacts and researching the historical context in which they were made, we can gain a deeper understanding of the past. The study of numismatics, coin collecting, is a valuable tool for historians.
