Paul Gittings made this black and white photograph, of a girl in a dress, sometime in the twentieth century. I love how the soft focus gives the whole image a hazy, dreamlike quality. It's like the image itself is made of light, or maybe even memory. Take a look at the girl's dress. The ruffles on the sleeves almost dissolve into the background, creating this beautiful play of light and shadow. It reminds me of how certain details fade over time, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. The way Gittings has used light in this image is just gorgeous, like the work of Julia Margaret Cameron. It’s a reminder that art doesn't always have to be about sharp focus or perfect clarity. Sometimes, it's in the blur where the magic happens.
