This page of notes was made sometime before 1916 by J. A. Jerichau (II). The writing is dense, in Danish, and in pencil. I can imagine the artist hunched over this notebook, maybe in a library or a cafe, scribbling down thoughts as they came. It makes me think about the way artists are always in conversation with each other, across time. Jerichau is writing here about Raphael and the Renaissance, trying to tap into that source of creativity. And then reflecting on concepts like time, space, form, tension, unity, infinity – the big stuff! You can sense the artist grappling with these ideas, trying to make connections between the old masters and their own creative process. It's like they're building a bridge between the past and the present, searching for inspiration in the harmonies and tensions of art history. And that's what art is all about, right? This constant exchange of ideas.
